How to Create and File e-statements
  • Review latest hard copy statement; make sure all content is correct, i.e. address, phone number, etc.
  • Locate company/vendors website address on found on statement; if none provided, locate toll free # or phone #
  • Go to website 
  • Bookmark web page address
  • Log on to website, if FIRST time, create an account by completing necessary information, i.e. account #, SSN, etc. 
  • Choose ONE password for all log ons; it should be EASY for you to remember but DIFFICULT for anyone to figure out. If you need to change the password keep the last password but add a number after it. 
  • Designate ONE email address for all e-statements be delivered; choose an email which will be for finances only not your personal email for regular correspondence like friends, email alerts from restaurants, stores, travels 
  • Note on latest hard copy statement date requested e-statements, once you receive your FIRST e-statement, shred and recycle statement
  • Choose or Create folder
  • List under General heading first, i.e. FINANCES, then create folder by company/vendor name 
  • Create an email reminder to clean out archived emails in folders, i.e. via Outlook, Gmail or Yahoo email accounts
  • Back up laptop/desktop and files on a regular basis; create an email reminder on this process as well
  • Create a shortcut to your desktop for folders you refer to on a regular basis
  • Shred and Recycle all paper statements!
